Sharonica L. Hardin-Bartley, Ph.D., PHR
Dr. Sharonica L. Hardin-Bartley assumed the duties of superintendent on July 1, 2016; having previously served as Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and Leadership Development for the Ritenour School District.
Dr. Hardin-Bartley is a native of St. Louis and grew up in north city. She is a graduate of Lafayette High School and has an undergraduate degree in elementary education and special education from Harris-Stowe State University. She earned an M.A. in Education Administration from St. Louis University and recently completed her Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
Sharonica, her husband (a University City High School graduate) and children are residents of University City. Their youngest child just completed first grade in the District.
Prior to joining Ritenour, Dr. Hardin-Bartley had a 15-year career in St. Louis Public Schools (SLPS). She served as SLPS Chief Human Resources Officer from 2007 to 2012, earning a professional certification as a Human Resources Manager. From 2005 to 2007, Dr. Hardin-Bartley served as “Principal on Special Assignment”, helping SLPS expand its partnership with the St. Louis Science Center and improve the District’s focus on science and math instruction. She was the founding principal of Adams Elementary School, one of SLPS’ newly re-opened schools. She oversaw the completion of the new building and hired all teachers and staff. Before serving as principal at Adams, Dr. Hardin-Bartley was a teacher and instructional coach in SLPS.
Throughout her career, Dr. Hardin-Bartley has been active within the community and serves on the boards of Alive and Well Communities, Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Community Action Agency of St. Louis. She was involved in the Child Well Being and Education Equity Committee of the Ferguson Commission and serves as an advisory board member for the Webster University and The University of Missouri-St. Louis education departments. Dr. Hardin-Bartley is a regional and national speaker on integrating health and well-being, student equity, restorative practices and student voice in the school community.
In March, Dr. Hardin-Bartley received the New Superintendent Award from of the Year for the St. Louis District by the Missouri Association of School Administrators.
